Led by Budi Purnomo 34, currently Taurus Gemilang manages eight executive lounge located in selected airports and operates more than 30 F&B outlets in Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, Makassar, and other big cities.
Has been groomed in the Business development and perfectly paired with the skills to thrive the business, Budi successfully transformed Taurus Gemilang into a global company. He now plans to bring Taurus Gemilang to the next level, making it the leading lounge and F&B operator in other outer transportation hubs such as ports, MRT stations and train stations as well as a leading player across the globe.
Budi considers transportation area dynamic Industries, which requires its player to keep adapting new tasks and challenges every day in the pursuit of a sustainable business. However, the challenges have shaped Taurus Gemilang in its expertise to attend different tenders, create new idea and concepts for each different area. “Our role is to give the best service, concept and nice experience for the customers and let them heaving value for money of F&B outlets and lounges.” says Budi, CEO of Taurus Gemilang.
The company was founded in 1989 by Budi’s mother Pop Mulhadi with and executive lounge in Juanda International Airport, Surabaya. Since 6 years old, Budi has been taken by his mother to join the meeting the client or working in the company’s operations.
Handled directly by the owner, Taurus Gemilang’s executive lounges over local food delights with a heart-warming service for the passengers to revive or simply chill, regardless they are traveling for business or leisure. The passengers can also get tampered before their departure by having reflexology and massages, as well as use the facilities include praying room, smoking room and toilet.
The company’s achievement in providing outstanding executive lounges as gained attention from banking industry. Over the years, Taurus Gemilang cooperated with several banks, credit card provider includes citibank and cellular operators.
A part from the airport lounges in 2005 Taurus Gemilang expanded its foray into F&B business. Budi has joined the company in 2010 and in 2013 he pointed out remarkable achievement, when Taurus Gemilang won the bidding process for providing several F&B outlets in Juanda International Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International airport and Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan Airport, Balikpapan. For his accomplishment, Pop passed the lead to Budi. According to Budi, Pop is the best mentor who taught him for always seeking the opportunity.
Right after Taurus Gemilang started managing the F&B area, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport hit exponential revenue growth of commercial area, thanks to the company’s tremendous effort as well as improvement and expansion at the airport. Under the leadership of Budi, Taurus Gemilang booked 350% revenue growth. Has not been satiated, in 2014 Taurus Gemilang was trusted to operate F&B outlets in International terminal at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.
Last March 2017, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, operated by state-owned PT Angkasa Pura I, received a prestigious international award as “The 3rd World Best Airport 2016″ for category of airport with 15-25 million annual passengers.
I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Aiport received the award based on a survey of Airport Service Quality (ASQ), the only global benchmarking program which measures passengers satisfactory at the airports. The survey was done by the world’s leading airport organization, the Montreal-based Airport Council International (ACI). Previously in 2015, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport also received the same achievement as the world’s third best airport.
In 2016, Taurus Gemilang won the biggest country tender for operating F&B area in Airside Domestic Terminal 3 Ultimate Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The tender was held by PT Angkasa Pura II and attended by more than 30 companies from national and multinational. Pursuant to which is ,Taurus Gemilang was appointed to manage a 3,261 sqm F&B area, where it provides global and local culinary brands with comfort atmosphere and international standard service. later 2017 at the same airport, it won the tender for operating a 3,000 sqm domestic lounge in Terminal 3 Ultimate, which will be the biggest lounge in Indonesia. Today, Taurus Gemilang is the master concessionaire in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
With state-of-the-art experience in the hospitality and F&B business, Taurus Gemilang has managed International F&B brands include Burger King. It just won the master franchise license of Singapore-based tea cafe Chaiholics for operating its outlet in the country.
Beside international brands. Taurus Gemilang is committed to support the virtue of local brands by the opening of Made’s Warung Kita, Warung Koffie Batavia, Papabunz, Hong Tang, Bekal dari Ibu, Liberica, Ramen Sanpachi, Warung Tekko, Steak Hotel Holycow and Baso Afung. Budi says, one of the advantages of Taurus Gemilang is its capability to research the customers’ habit in transportation area. “We have a strong team with a focus on analyzing the customers’ habit in transportation area. The market analysis finds us one step ahead compared to other players. I have learned that from my mother,” he says. It also uphold gender balance, having 90% of employees at management level of females.
Budi keeps the company growing rapidly, supported by the cooperation with 30 brands. Its endeavor in the industry has brought the company winning over seven awards include one of which as the “Best Lounge Operator in Indonesia”. The company also obtained ISO 9001:2008 for quality management system.
Due to high demand, Budi plans to continue expanding the network of Taurus Gemilang, both in existing and new airport. Last year, it turned up with DragonPass, a digital airport platform which offers travelers to locate and access more than 800 international airport executive lounges in over 100 countries.
Budi learns critical values from his parents Mulhadi Sarah and Pop Mahadi, both are now commissioners of Taurus Gemilang, who told him there is nothing impossible if the company find out the opportunity, set the strategies to achieve it and know the best time to execute the strategies. One of the keys of their success that inherited to Budi is how to gain and retain people trust. He believes that the trust from stakeholders would only emerged by only keeping a highly commitment to give more benefits and privileges to the customers. These values have taught Budi to be patient and persistent in chasing his goals, in line with the principle in leading Taurus Gemilang. “Focus on what is Important.”
